Christ Episcopal Church, Hornell NY
Christ Episcopal Church, Hornell NY is a parish of approximately ninety people. We are a close congregation with so much to offer our community. We have been blessed with a new Rector, The Reverend Shanna Hawks who we are so excited to have. We share Reverend Shanna with The Church of the Good Shepherd in Savona, NY.
We serve our community in many ways. We have a Food Pantry that serves twenty to twenty-five people each month and a Thrift shop that sells clothing, shoes, handbags, and housewares for one dollar an item. Our parishioners donate items to the thrift shop as well as food and money for the food pantry. These services are a great help to our community and the thrift shop helps Christ Church financially. They are both run by some wonderful and dedicated volunteers. Christ Church also provides a classroom for the Adult Education program through BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services). This program helps people earn their GED (High school equivalency diploma) enabling them to advance their education in a trade or college degree. These are just a few ways in which Christ Episcopal Church helps those in need in our community.
One of our unique features is our order of Christ the King, which is a chapter of the Daughters of the King. The Daughters of the King is an order for women who are communicants of the Episcopal Church. A daughter pledges herself to a life-long program of prayer, service, and evangelism, dedicated to the spread of Christ’s Kingdom and to the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish or mission. The daughters meet once a month and do various community outreach projects. There are currently seven members of our Christ the King chapter.
Christ Episcopal Church has many social gatherings which gives parishioners an opportunity to get to know each other and strengthen our spiritual lives. We hold coffee hour every Sunday in our Parish Hall immediately following service and we have an annual picnic. Our parishioners enjoy these times together. We are a close congregation that provides a tremendous amount of help and dedication to each other and the Church.
