St. Mark’s Episcopal Church
Located in the heart of the Village of Newark, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church has been an integral part of the community since its establishment in 1851. The parish has been a place where villagers have gathered for worship, spiritual and Christian formation, pastoral care, outreach ministries, and fellowship. St. Mark’s is committed to our mission statement, “Sharing God’s Love with Each Other and the World.” We share this love by providing space to various groups in our community such as Alcoholics Anonymous, the Newark Girl Scouts, and a grief center. Since 2006, the St. Mark’s Baby Closet assists families in crisis by providing essential items for infants and young children. The Baby Closet currently serves over 100 families per year. Through a new ministry called Laura’s Baskets we have partnered with the village elementary schools by providing coats, socks, and other needed clothing items for young children. We also participate in community outreach projects such as Family Promise, the Crop Walk, and Rise Against Hunger.
St. Mark’s is committed to providing a traditional worship experience to which all are welcome. Sunday services can be experienced in person or on Zoom. Our congregation welcomes infants and toddlers. We do not mind noise and disruption, and our toddlers sometimes wander from pew to pew. Our older children are part of the worship experience at St. Mark’s by serving as acolytes and lay readers. We also provide Sunday School and occasional outings for our children and youth. For our adults, we offer book and bible studies and spiritual formation opportunities.
St. Mark’s can be summed up in one word – LOVE! We love our community, we love our faith community! We enjoy worshiping, serving, learning, and being with each other. St. Mark’s is a community that seeks to find joy in Christ.
