Located just a mile up Main Street from Canandaigua Lake, St. John’s has been an integral part of the community for more than 200 years! Known today as the church with “too many ministries,” we welcome all to join us for worship on Sundays (in person or on Zoom), to volunteer in the Gleaners Community Kitchen, become involved in Family Promise of Ontario County currently housed in our former rectory, or any of our other many ministries. The Gleaners Kitchen serves a hot lunch five days a week to anyone in need – no questions asked. In addition to a hot meal, we provide groceries and other items to families in need from our “Red Wagon Pantry.” Family Promise is an organization that assists families in need of housing and employment. Some of our ministries like the Storybook Project with inmates at the Ontario County jail were put on hold during the pandemic, but we’re hoping to have it up and running again soon. Our members believe wholeheartedly in the Presiding Bishop’s declaration “if it’s not about love, it’s not about God!” We enjoy worship, Bible and book studies, social gatherings, opportunities to be of service, and the offering of support to other organizations – from collecting paper towel and toilet rolls for the hamsters and rats at the local animal shelter to personal care products for the homeless, food for the hungry, holiday gifts for the needy and school supplies for kids. We have an annual, fiercely competitive, croquet tournament as well as picnics and other social events. St John’s is a welcoming and affirming place where everyone finds acceptance, friends, community, and joy in the presence of God.
