St. Paul’s -Angelica
St. Paul’s is a small and growing parish community of about 25 members. We have a strong and supportive Vestry of 14 and a Worship Team of 5 who plan our Sunday Services. We are currently lay led with Morning Prayer Services on 1st and 3rd Sundays and supply clergy providing Holy Eucharist on 2nd and 4th Sundays. On the 5th Sundays we share services with Wellsville and Cuba.
Our mission, Growing Our Numbers in Christ through Sound, continues to be a vibrant path for our parish to connect to the community and across Allegany County. Our volunteers work events and produce programming to help make this happen. St. Paul’s works closely with WRAQ (wraq.org or 92.7 fm), the local community radio station, to stream and broadcast our Services every Sunday at 9:00 am across Allegany County and worldwide on the web. We also host a free Music Concert Series throughout the summer, bringing in professional musicians to perform for the public. These efforts have grown our parish and allowed us to reach out to our community and people of all ages.
St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is located on the historic, tree lined Park Circle in the lovely, idyllic Village of Angelica. Through the efforts of the Honorable Philip Church, St. Paul’s was organized and admitted to the Diocese of New York in 1827. Philip Church, the son of Angelica Schuyler Church and aide-de-camp and nephew of Alexander Hamilton; was a founding member and one of the original wardens of St. Paul’s.
The church structure is a carpenter gothic design and was consecrated on July 23, 1848. This building replaced the original church destroyed by fire in 1847. Much of the church has retained the integrity of the original design and additions that were made during the Victorian era. The historical significance and beauty of the building makes it an attraction today and the parish is open for many community events.
