St. Paul’s Episcopal Church
On the corner of East Ave & Westminster, Rochester, NY
Founded in 1827, St. Paul’s Church has been the spiritual home to thousands and has played an important role in the life of our city and diocese. The first church buildings were located on Market Street (now St. Paul’s Street); as the church grew and the city expanded, we moved to our present location in 1897. Today, we are home to a vital worshiping congregation that continues the work of our ancestors through a storiedchurch-music tradition, engaging life-long Christian education programs, life-sustaining outreach in this city and beyond, and warm fellowship. Our two Sunday morning services of the Holy Eucharist are enriched by fine preaching and robust choir programs (adult choir, choristers, and bell choir). A Wednesday Eucharist and lay-led Thursday Zoom Morning Prayer round out our weekly worship and we offer Choral Evensong and other special services throughout the year. Our Sunday School program and youth group are both growing and there are multiple options for life-long Christian education in a variety of settings. For decades, our parishioners have been actively engaged at St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality, the St. Paul’s Childcare Center, and School #9. We are also involved with Rural and Migrant Ministries in Lyons, as well as Episcopal Senior Life Communities, Family Promise of Greater Rochester, and Water for South Sudan –these three we were instrumental in establishing (1868, 2000, and 2003, respectively). Since returning from COVID lockdowns, we have placed great value on gathering as a community for meals and other times of fellowship. St. Paul’s seeks to be a gracious and giving community rooted in faith, tradition, service, and a sense of belonging. Our parishioners are drawn from near and far, on-site and remotely, to our historic and beautiful campus. We invite you to grow with us through worship, learning, and faith in action.
