St Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Bath NY
St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church of Bath, NY, is a welcoming community that witnesses to God’s love and justice in the world and cares for all those in need by following the example of Jesus Christ.
We understand ourselves to be a worshipping community in service to the wider community of Bath and environs. The congregation gathers to celebrate Holy Eucharist at 8:00 and 10:30 on Sunday mornings. We have a lively Sunday School program every Sunday (except during the summer), using a method called “Godly Play” that tells stories from the Bible in ways to engage children’s wonder and imagination.
There are also two mid-week gatherings for worship: each Wednesday evening at 7:30 the service of Compline is offered via Zoom; on Thursdays at 12:10 p.m. there is a celebration of Holy Eucharist in the Chapel.
Feeding people is a core outreach ministry at St. Thomas’. The Community Garden raises around 1000 pounds of fresh produce annually for the local food pantry. Each Wednesday, we serve a home cooked lunch to guests who enjoy fellowship along with the food. Each month we collect nonperishable food and hygiene items to donate to the Turning Point Food Pantry. We help host Sunday Suppers along with other churches in the village.
This summer a Chelsea a la Chartres Labyrinth will be installed, along with a butterfly garden. We hope this will become a gathering place for the community with various walking opportunities to foster contemplation and healing. The Pro-Action Youth Development Program that occupies space in the church basement and the Bath VA Hospital are among the community groups who have already expressed interest in this outreach ministry.
We are a small parish with a generous spirit that seeks to bless communities locally and globally.
